1. The individual’s library card (physical card or barcode through the Main Library Alliance app, as well as photos that can be scanned are accepted) must be presented at the front desk. To use self-check kiosks, users must know their library card number and PIN.
2. Though not encouraged, library users who cannot produce their borrower’s card may checkout materials by providing alternate ID (driver’s license/school ID) as long as the card is still active. Users should bring their library card/barcode next time they borrow from the library.
3. Using the Patron Associations feature, a user may check out an item on hold for an associated member (using their own card or with the presentation of the associated member’s card).
4. Most patrons may have up to 100 items out on a single account. Interim and Temporary accounts may have up to 25 items out on a single account.
5. Patrons may not check out print or downloadable materials if $10.00 or more is owed in library fines or fees on their account.
6. The library is not responsible for damages that may occur to equipment in the playing of library audio/AV material.
7. AV materials are licensed for non-commercial, private exhibition. Any other use or copying is strictly prohibited. Federal law provides severe civil and criminal penalties for the unauthorized reproduction, distribution, or exhibition of copyrighted AV materials.

Items will automatically attempt to renew 3 days before the due date and patrons will be notified about the renewal or upcoming due date if they receive email or text notifications. Renewals can also be done the following ways:

• Renewals may be done by staff in-person as long as the user has either their library card or the items to be renewed.
• Renewals may be done by staff over the telephone or in-person, as long as the user can provide their borrower barcode.
• Renewals may be done by the user directly by logging into their account online or through the Main app (with card number and PIN).

1. Most—but not all—items have a maximum renewal of 2.
2. Most materials that do not have a hold may be renewed.
3. Materials that have already been renewed twice should be placed back on library shelves to provide others the opportunity to borrow. No additional renewals can be provided on items not belonging to HCL under any circumstances.
4. Overdue HCL material may be renewed and the fine can be collected at the time of renewal or, if the material is renewed by phone, the fine will be added to the patron’s record.
5. Patrons who are signed up for email notices may receive an online reminder of items that are due back soon and a notice of overdue materials.

To request renewal of interlibrary loans, the request must be made with ILL staff so that the owning library can be connected for approval.
