The Hunterdon County Library is excited to offer a variety of equipment for hand building clay and a pottery wheel for throwing clay.  We offer classes in hand building where participants can follow a guided project or create their own design. Our Intro to the Pottery Wheel appointments provide a one-to-one lesson on the wheel that certifies the participant to reserve the wheel during open hours.  During Makerspace Open Hours hand building with clay is available both on a reservation and walk-up basis when space is available.  We offer a bundled price of $5/lb of clay which includes two firings in the kiln (Bisque 05 and Glaze Fire cone 5) and a selection of glazes. 

Here are some guidelines: 

• Please check-in with a staff member when you arrive.

• Pottery Wheel Appointments for certification to use the wheel during open hours (ages 15+, one appointment/person) can be made at https://hclibrary.libcal.com/calendar/makerspace
• Ages 9-17 need to be with an adult caregiver during Makerspace Open Hours
• Clay and glazes are provided by the Library (no outside clay or glazes)
• If you'd like to use an apron to protect your clothes please bring one
• You are welcome to bring your own clay tools or use ours
• We have procedures to recycle clay and glaze and clean the tools and ware boards. Please learn and follow our procedures
• Help us keep our makerspace clean and dust free. Clean the tools, ware board and space that you use with a wet sponge. We have a lot of very expensive equipment in this room that excessive clay dust will damage.
• Adults will need to read and acknowledge agreement to the Makerspace Activities Release form when registering for a class or reserving a spot during Makerspace Open hours. 
• Parents with minors between 9-17 need to sign the liability waiver on arrival or bring a print copy. Waiver for Minor to attend Open Hours or waiver for Program depending on what the minor is attending.
