The Library of Things enables library patrons to borrow items (Things) such as crafting tools, electronics, home tools, recreation items, and more. All HCLS resident cardholders in good standing are eligible to borrow up to 4 Things at a time, most for 14 days, from the Library of Things. There is no charge to borrow a Thing. The Library is not responsible for any injury, loss, or damage that may occur from use of any item from the Library of Things.

Please use the box below to browse the Things we offer and to place reservations. This is a lending program only; library staff are not available for instruction in the use of Things.

Requests should be placed from the day you plan to pick the item up to the day you plan to return it.

Items can be picked up at Headquarters, North County, and South County locations any time during open hours. At HQ and NCB, items can be picked up at the reference desk; at SCB, the circulation desk will have your item. Things MUST be returned to the same location they were borrowed no later than 5PM on the due date. Do not return items in the book drops; there will be a $10 fine for items placed in the book drop.

Late items will accrue a fine of $1/day. Items returned requiring cleaning will incur a fine of $5. Lost, damaged, or unusable items will result in a replacement fee equal to the cost of the Thing applied to the library account used to place the reservation. To see the full policy, click here.
